When a house is built on poor soil, or has issues such as poor compaction or drainage, a home may begin to settle. To stop the settling a homeowner can call a company like Structure Pros to install helical piers; So what is a helical pier?
A helical pier is a 3" diameter pipe that is engineered with a helix on the end to be drilled deep into the soil until it hits bedrock or stable soil. This is done by drilling the pier slowly into the ground at 6ft. apart and adding 7ft. lengths until the desired depth and torque is achieved, once the depth is reached a lift bracket is added to the top of the pier and positioned to take the weight of the building. When all piers and brackets have been placed the piers are now supporting the weight of the building and it is no longer being supported by the poor soil, think of the homes built on stilts in the US southern regions. The piers are now taking the weight and transferring it to the bedrock below, thus saving your home or investment property from becoming a hazard and uninhabitable.
